2022.11.18How Green when You Reuse The Abandoned Fishing Net?
Never Changing Ghost Fishing Will Eventually Destroy Our Planet
What is Ghost Fishing?
Speaking of this, it has to mention the ghost nets. While everyone made an effort to raise awareness of plastic bags and bottles, there is another huge problem the ghost net is already out in the waters.
Ghost Nets are abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing nets made from synthetic fibers that are left drifting in the oceans. These durable nets can remain adrift for years and years. Accounts for approximately 10 percent of all marine litter.
They will continue to fish in a process called ghost fishing, Restricting the natural movement of marine animals, making them unable to forage for food or evading predators, starving and suffocating eventually killing a significant number of them. What's worse, the algae or rotten fish getting trapped in them attract more marine life into the nets’ lethal claws.
Break The Ghost Fishing Cycle Without Delay!
Why did Honmyue choose to cooperate with Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp(FCFC)?
Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp is the biggest nylon fiber manufacturer in Taiwan. A major manufacturer of nylon, FCFC started the "Nylon Total Recycle" program in 2022, collecting old nets from the source to make them become recycled nylon yarns by chemically recycled. By the end of the year, FCFC’s plant in Chiayi County will triple its previous fishing net recycling capacity to 750 metric tons a month, which would make it the world’s biggest fishing net chemical recycling facility. Enabling the nylon in the old nets to be restored to its old glory, provides a sustainable alternative to traditional nylon.
A large and stable supply of ocean waste recycled nylon?
King Chou Marine Technology Corp is the biggest commercial fishing net manufacturer in Taiwan and one of the top three net manufacturers in the world, with sales in 50 countries around the world. In order to build a circular economy and solve the problem of marine waste, Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp cooperated with King Chou Marine Technology Co., to utilize decommissioned and post-use fishing nets to be Seawastex nylon recycle yarn which reduces carbon emissions, reduces dependence on oil, and protect our environment.
What are the benefits of Fishery Waste Fabric?
- The unique material we use to produce eco-friendly fabric is nylon made from recycled fishing nets, and finely woven to give a light and delicate close to the hand-feel of the natural textile.
- The fabric offers light, soft, and breathable, it is matt but with a slight see-through effect which makes it ideal for the creation of light jackets and comfy lifestyle wear bottoms..
- Recovered made by chemical, environmental recovery excellent quality yarn having good dyeability and processing efficiency.
- Not needing any new petroleum inputs, producing recycled nylon generates 49% less carbon emissions compared to new nylon.
- A sustainable fabric made of Seawastex regenerated Nylon yarn that turns waste problems into fashion.
